How What You THINK About Instagram Creates Your Experience on Instagram!


I believe that the way we approach Instagram with our thoughts ends up actually creating the experience we have on Instagram. And, it's what influences the result that we get from Instagram.

This is possible by making just a few subtle shifts to the things that you say to yourself and you say to others about Instagram.

The first thing we're going to talk about is thoughts toward “the algorithm.”

Ok, so how many of you have ever said this phrase “The algorithm is out to get me?” Right….?

What if you just change that one phrase, “the algorithm is out to get me,” to “the algorithm is my best friend.” I know it sounds crazy, but what if you just started saying, “the algorithm is my best friend?”

Here's what happens when you change that one belief - you see, it allows you to work with the Instagram algorithm instead of working against it. Then, you can recognize that the algorithm’s ONLY PURPOSE - the only job of this robot - is to get the right content in front of the right person at the right time.

That's it. That's all it's doing. There is no malice towards you. It's not personally invested in your success or failure on Instagram. It's simply getting the right content in front of the right person at the right time, so you can actually work with the algorithm to create the right content for your audience.

If we know the algorithm is our best friend, then we can get curious and proactive as business owners, as marketers, and as a content creators.

My mentor, James Wedmore talks about this idea that the quality of our life is determined by the quality of our questions. So, if we ask better questions regarding Instagram, we’ll create better quality content and a better experience we'll have. If instead of saying, “the algorithm is out to get me” we start saying things like, “how can I better serve my audience?”

This leads to questions like, “How can I make sure that this content gets in front of my ideal client? What is the best time to post? What is the best way to engage? What is the best way to create content? What is the best content for my followers?” The list goes on.

The second thought I want you to change is your focus on followers - however many you have or don’t have.

You see, what if instead of focusing on getting more followers, you started focusing on better serving the followers you already have?

Perhaps the solution to your sales problem on Instagram is not the need for more followers, but the fact that you don't know how to convert the followers you already have. Instead of putting all that time and energy into getting new followers put it into converting the ones you already have.

Successful business owners focus on how they can best serve the followers they have right now because they recognize that if they want to grow their following that they need to create high quality content that will spark conversations, which are needed in order to drive conversions from a follower to a customer or client.

The final thought I want to address, is your thought about time on Instagram.

So, I want you to think about this. Are you saying, “I'm wasting my time on Instagram,” or are you saying, “I'm investing my time on Instagram?” As a business owner you should say with confidence, “I am investing my time on Instagram.”

Social media does require you put some work in, however if you look at it in a negative perspective, you will not make the most of your time spent on social media, Instagram, or whatever platform you’re on.

To wrap up, I want you to take away these three big mindset shifts for what you're doing on Instagram that will change your experience on the platform and change your results.

The first, is that the algorithm is your best friend. And your new goal is to become really curious about how you can work best with the algorithm. The next idea is that the number of followers you have right now is the perfect number of followers. Focus on connecting with the followers you have right now. And last but not least, start saying, “I'm investing my time on Instagram” instead of, “I am wasting my time on Instagram.”
