your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
the gods wait to delight
in you.

What could you achieve if you simply believed that anything is possible?

Tell me in the comments. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
If you would have told me a year ago that my life would be the way it is today (happy, healthy, financially secure, confident, and joy-filled), I wouldn’t have believed you.
•
You see, a year ago this month @itsmeericc and I moved to Chicago. We packed up everything we owned and left a place we knew filled with people we loved.
•
We were ready for something different. Ready to be on our own. Ready to get away.
•
I remember our first night here, sleeping on an air mattress, wondering what in the hell we had gotten ourselves into.
•
The days turned into weeks and everything started to fall apart. My business wasn’t where it needed to be. My relationships with most people - other than Eric - were strained. My confidence was all but gone. And we were broke. Like...dirt broke.
•
I remember sitting down in the kitchen, getting a piece of paper and pen, figuring out all of our finances right after our move, and telling Eric that after we paid our September rent, we would be completely out of money.
•
And then I had a realization that changed my life. I finally understood that no one was coming to save me.
•
For the first time in my life, I recognized that I was responsible for my own future. That I had the power to change my life. That I was already in the driver’s seat, I just needed to take charge of the controls. And I did.
•
It took hard work. But not like “working hard” hard work. Instead, I had to do the hard work of recognizing all the ways I had gotten myself to that point, coming to terms with how I had let myself down, and accepting the fact that I was responsible for the life I created.
•
And the person I thought was coming to save me? Yeah, he was there all along. I just had to accept that he and I were one and the same.
Raise your hand if you identify with this statement: “Guac is extra and so I am!”

How to Build a Business Online in 2018
•
1️⃣ Own Your Shit (still a work in progress for me) - you gotta own your shit so you don’t accidentally put it on other people. Important note: no one likes getting shit on.
•
2️⃣ Be Yourself (feeling good about this one) - stop trying to be her or do what he does or focusing on copying them. Be yourself. Say things you’d really say. Share photos you’d really share. Stop watering yourself down.
•
3️⃣ Remember It’s Not About You (getting better at this each and every day) - you provide a transformation for your customer, student, or client. EVERYTHING you do and say and share and post is for them (even when it’s about you...the goal is to serve them through your story).
•
4️⃣ Kill Your Scarcity Mentality (that’s done been dead for me) - you MUST accept that there is more than enough for you and everyone around you. Your obsession with scarcity and your fear that others are taking from you is leading you to make terrible decisions in terms of your marketing, positioning, messaging, offerings, and pricing. You can’t grow a business if you believe there isn’t enough out there for you.
•
5️⃣ Be The Least Experienced Person In the Room (I’m actively working on this) - look for spaces where you know the least and have the most to learn. You. Do. Not. Know. It. All. The sooner you accept that (TYLER J. MCCALL) the sooner you’ll be able to move on and learn from the best of the best.

What did I miss?

I’ve spent a lot of my life feeling like I didn’t belong.
•
I remember being in middle school and feeling so, so alone. I was shy beyond belief and putting myself out there? Yeah, that wasn’t going to happen. I was chubby and effeminate. I never fit in. I was different.
•
Going into high school, I made some close friends; however, getting outside of that friend group was next to impossible. And I was still never my true self.
•
It really wasn’t until college that I finally felt like I belonged. I found my community. And when I found them? I was finally able to be myself. For the first time in my life.
•
You don’t realize how dangerous it can be to keep your true self hidden until you’ve had the joy of being yourself without fear of judgment compared to the pain and loneliness of hiding who you are.
•
I’m passionate about creating space for entrepreneurs to be themselves. Unapologetically. A place for people to do the work of uncovering who they are, what’s important to them, and why they do what they do.
•
That’s why the Follower to Fan Society exists. Sure, we talk about Instagram. But more importantly, you’ll be encouraged to be you. Perfectly, honestly, and beautifully you.
